Lunch with a Doctor 2018

Great way to start the new year, 2018!  January 7, 2018 Beit Shalom Balevav’s fourth annual blood pressure clinic.  A clinic for free basic health screens and blood pressure checks and also a very informative lecture by Dr. Randy Zarraga, an electrophysiologist at the VA Hospital in Portland, Oregon.  Dr. Zarraga presented on cardiovascular “heart” health, risk factors and how to live a healthier life.  Afterwards, everyone had a change to get some healthy soup, salad, and bread and then sit down and have lunch with Dr....

The Ageless Book

Beit Shalom Balevav (BSB) takes the Bible Expo on the road to Ogden, Utah.  It was such a blessed time to fellowship out of town.  An incredible show of faith to travel during mid-winter over icy mountain ranges.  Blue skies and frigid cold made for a beautiful weekend in Utah together. On December 29, 2017 BSB was able to live stream its first ever service during Kabbalat Shabbat from the hotel in Layton, Utah to its congregation in Vancouver, Washington.  Dr. Alexander “Sasha” Bolotnikov spoke on Acts 2 and about “the...

Thanksgiving Pie Sale 2017

Our most successful pie sale ever!  We had a great crew this year.  We actually worked faster than our ovens.  Yes some down-time waiting for the pies to bake.  We had quite the variety of pies.  About 144 pies, two selling locations, on-line advanced sales, and the highest sales revenue in our three years of doing this.  All proceeds will go to our winter homeless ministry event (over $1,000 raised). October 19, the pies were made by Beit Shalom Balevav in a bakery near Ft. Vancouver High School.  October 22, the pies were sold at BSB and...

Homeless Ministry – Brown Bag Dinners

On October 27, 2017, Beit Shalom Balevav had a great time serving the homeless in our local community at the Share House in down-town Vancouver, Washington. Over 60 people enjoyed a custom-made, home-made smoked chicken sandwich or pita gyro.  Everyone had a chance to get at least one and most took an extra with them for later in a brown bag.  It was very delicious and many compliments by the patrons.  We also got the portable stove going and were able to serve popular hot drinks to include hot coco and coffee with pumpkin spice creamer. We...

Clark County Fair 2017

Beit Shalom Balevav set up a 30 foot booth at the Clark County Fair in Ridgefield, Washington from August 4-13, 2017.  The Clark County Fair is one of the longest running (since 1868), biggest, best, and most exciting county fairs in the United States.  We displayed a real, 200 year-old Torah Scroll, a replica of the Great Isaiah Scroll found in Qumran area in 1947 (dating over 2,300 years old).  We also had a Bible plinko board game where fairgoers had to correctly answer a Bible question in order to play and win free prizes.  Over the ten...

Mother’s Day Homeless Ministry

Sunday, May 14, 2017: Homeless Ministry at Share House in Vancouver, Washington on Mother’s Day. A huge success as Beit Shalom Balevav set up outside the homeless shelter to make homemade doughnuts, distribute necessities, and hand-out roses to mothers and women who are less fortunate.  We made several dozen doughnuts, on the spot, with a camp stove and pot of boiling oil.  These were rolled in cinnamon and covered with fresh, homemade strawberry sauce.  These treats were a big hit and several dozen homeless people stopped by and waited...

Backyard Birding Workshop 2017

April 30, 2017: Columbia Springs Environmental Education Center.  Vancouver, Washington.  Tyler Hartlauer presented on how to attract and care for God’s amazing birds in your backyard.  It was a very nice, pleasant sunny day, after having one of the wettest seasons of record.  The turnout was very good too.  Many people stayed over the time to have great food, fellowship, asks questions, and to put together a bird house kit for their backyard.  Erik Herngren, who runs the volunteer services of Columbia Springs said that it was one of...

Passover Seder – 2017 – Photo Album

Friday, April 14, 2017. Our community Seder is one event we look forward to every year. In fact, we start planning for the next one as soon as the last year’s Seder is over. In 2017, we rented the Luepke Center at the Marshall Community Center in downtown Vancouver, Washington. Here are pictures from behind the scenes and from the Seder itself.                                                        ...
