Pancake Breakfast for the Homeless 2018

Beit Shalom Balevav had a great turn-out of volunteers and hungry people standing in a long line to get some home-made breakfast on Sunday, February 11, 2018.  Over 100 people were served!  So many people that the line never really stopped flowing and so we quickly ran out of some of the popular items like scrambled eggs and oatmeal, but everyone had a hardy breakfast and received enough.  We were able to earmark the funds from the Thanksgiving pie sale fundraiser to purchase plenty of blankets, tents, jackets, socks and other necessities for outdoor living.  Many were blessed to receive a brand new tent as this winter has been rather wet.  God did bless us with some really pleasant, early spring weather.

Going in to the Share House to get a large pot of hot water, Tyler noticed a man telling everyone going in, “Why are you eating inside here when there are real scrambled eggs, hash browns, blueberry pancakes, sausage and real fruit outside being made right now on the spot!”

Everyone was thankful and respectful to others.  It was humbling to see people with so little being so kind and graceful to us and others around them.  Unfortunately, with Clark County growing so fast and the troubles and dangers across the river in Portland, the homeless population in Vancouver is rapidly increasing as are the needs and demands to provide safety and substance for them.
